Tom Lynch
About
I’m currently building in San Francisco with my brother Ben Lynch.
In 2026, I earned my PhD from Cambridge, where I developed a universal autofocus attachment for microscopy. I also rowed in the winning ’23 and ’24 Boat Race crews.
My interests include:
- Embodied AI. How much of the physical AI buildout will be humanoids vs. purpose-built robotics?
- Reindustrialisation. What is needed to 10x the west’s industrial capacity?
- Consumer hardware. What form-factors are enabled by AI? What is the next iPhone?
- B2B AI. Where is there an obvious capability overhang, and what is the best way to bring that to market?
Projects, etc.
- et al: An agent-native workspace for researchers; raised 350k @ 6M pre and scaled to ~1600 users
- Universal Autofocus Device for Microscopy (PhD): A patented device that attaches to any microscope camera port and holds focus using real-time depth estimation
- YouTube series on The Boat Race: 10-video series on training for The Boat Race using footage from my v1 Meta Raybans
- Rowing: Rowing 12-15x per week for 7 years
- CrowdStream: A tool to crowdsource livestreams of large events
- Mobile EEG: A headset used to detect cortico-muscular coherence despite movement artefacts while walking
- Computer Vision for Mining: Designed cameras and pressure sensors for extreme temperatures and pressures
- LiDAR for autonomous driving: Built a scanning LiDAR sensor based on an oscillating MEMS mirror
